Welcome to Waratah Homestead Organics, an organic and biodynamic certified broad-acre mixed farming enterprise at Peak Hill in Central New South Wales in Australia.
Waratah Homestead Organics is a combination of our family’s farming interests and homestead self-sufficiency lifestyle. We produce chemical free wheat, spelt, oats, barley, hay, sheep, wool, lamb, beef, and eggs which are sold into the organic market to other farmers or processors.
Our lifestyle is based around our homestead which hosts a self-sufficient garden, growing fresh fruit – apricots, peaches, pears, apples, nectarines, oranges, passionfruit, strawberries, grapes, rhubarb, plums and quandongs and seasonal vegetables – spinach, parsley, pumpkin, tomatoes, lettuce, cauliflower, capsicum, chilli, beans, snow peas, peas, onions, carrots, cucumbers, eggplant, zucchini, potatoes, pak choi and beetroot (some of which Judi turns into jams, preserves, pickles, chutneys and dried fruit) A registered butcher cuts and packages our lamb and beef on-farm. We run Isa-brown hens to produce eggs which are registered with the NSW Food Authority and plan to purchase a chicken caravan to increase our number of hens down the track.
No chemicals, pesticides, herbicides or man-made fertilizers are used in the production of grain or stock on our farms. We utilize alternate methods and strategies to fertilize our crops and manage weeds. Natural products are used for the animal husbandry of our stock.
We have been invited to speak to various groups eg Landcare, BAA, Orange Field Days, Parkes Garden Club over the past several years and we have hosted workshops for the Biological Farmers’ Association (BFA), Landcare, BAA and school agricultural student visits promoting organic/biodynamic agriculture.
